I just re-realized how much I love stories like Mushishi, Kino no Tabi, and Aria. How should I put it... They all have the same charm, mysterious and unexpected. There's no clear goal, like 'let's defeat the evil king and save the world' kind of thing. Life goes on, and no matter whatever you encounter, whoever you meet, or wherever you end up going, you have to stay true to yourself and face them. Like the countless canals and waterways of Neo Venezia, there's so much to explore in this world. This is one of the perks of such series for me, the new things I discover as the series go on. For example, the countries Kino visits and their traditions. The villages Ginko travel to and their experiences with Mushi. It reminds me that there's always more to life, so much more, and I should not give up my hope of travelling around the world someday (like, a backpacking artist of some sort, haha).

Another one would be that I learn so much about human behaviour and society. I get to see sides of people I never knew, and their opinions and thoughts. With a touch of fantasy in the story, the authors can express what they feel about the world clearly. I guess the way they have moulded the main character also is one way to do it. Like how Kino questions the behaviour of the people in the country where people don't need to work, and how she doesn't try to change it or force her opinion on them. Like how Ginko always stays cool. I feel that we all rush nowadays, in an attempt to be the first, to be the winner of this rat race. We are perpetually bombarded by information we don't need, opinions of other people, and persuasions. I'm forced to do mundane things I hate because of the cookie-cutter system they implement. I want to take things slowly; at my pace. Sometimes I wish I could really be egoist and just live for myself, pursuing my own interest in art and knowledge simply for the sake of it. Not for money, not for assurance, not for others.

These amazing stories have taught me to enjoy life, and to see the world as a better picture from a different view.

If any of you could point out series of similar kinds, I'd be happy. Others I have watched or read include: Arakawa Under the Bridge, Yotsuba&!, Saint Oniisan, Barakamon, Dosei Mansion, Gintama (well this one has some epic moments, certainly), My Girl (Sahara Mizu), Tom Sawyer (Takahashi Shin), Natsume Yuujinchou, Amanchu!, Sket Dance, Usagi Drop, and Tentai Senshi Sunred (wut?).
